Modeling Long-Duration Energy Storage Emerging Technologies

This Contract will involve characterization of the long duration and seasonal storage technologies through literature reviews, identification of specific locations in California and the Western United States where storage installations would be most advantageous, and detailed analysis of specific seasonal storage options – pumped storage hydropower (PSH) and green hydrogen. The Contractor will also outline and describe different market and contract structures that would ensure that storage resources would charge and discharge to meet California’s seasonal energy needs, and characterize the financial (e.g., revenue and bankability) challenges for seasonal and long-duration energy storage technologies.
