Project Update

Two sites are online with revised control strategies and have also implemented advanced AI control. Data logging and tuning is ongoing to continue optimization. Three more sites are pending updates to control strategies following on-site installation and integration based on scheduling availability.

The Issue

California dairy standard control systems for various heating and cooling processes are mainly reactive and respond to aggregated plant demands. Even with advance controls such as VFD's and valve positioning, the energy efficiencies are still sub-optimal and cannot be sustained over long-term operations.

Project Innovation

The purpose of this project is to design and deploy the next-generation energy management technologies to optimize dairy processing performance at both the equipment level and across the whole plant, utilizing advanced process control systems that will use artificial intelligence and predictive model controls to improve energy efficiency and production values by using monitored data and results from previous experience and then automatically applying the machine learning in the control strategies at and across five dairy processing locations.
